Xirrus introduces high density access points to meet extra Wi-Fi demand

Increased mobile device use and the rise of Internet of Things devices (Gartner estimates there'll be 25 billion by 2020) has led to greater demands on wireless networks with increased volumes of traffic.

Network specialist Xirrus is introducing Xtreme Density (XD) Wi-Fi access points to meet this need. The Xirrus XD4 is the only 4-radio all 802.11ac access point currently on the market.

Xirrus claims that the XD4 can support four times more users, reduce the amount of equipment deployed by 75 percent and decrease total cost of ownership by up to 50 percent compared to competing products.

The XD platform, paired with Xirrus' XMS cloud management system, delivers performance and simplicity. The platform automatically chooses the best available band and power level without needing IT intervention and customizes client connectivity for the best performance based on the capability of each device.

The units also ship with the TurboXpress tool which allows administrators to configure every radio on the AP for high-speed 802.11ac operation with the click of a mouse.

"With different devices and applications competing for bandwidth on wireless networks, one AP is not enough to maintain acceptable performance," says Bruce Miller, Vice President of product marketing at Xirrus. "XD solves this problem by integrating more 802.11ac radios per AP than any solution in the market, and eliminating the central controller from the network. This combination establishes the Xirrus XD as a solution that not only performs better, but actually reduces implementation and ongoing operational costs -- a win-win for everyone".
