Microsoft explains Windows 10 -- try to stay awake

Sleep

If you’re still undecided whether Windows 10 is for you or not, or you just want to find out a bit more about the forthcoming OS, Microsoft has a new video designed to walk you through the changes and new features.

The video is presented by Mohammed Samji of the Windows Team, and it’s about as laid back as you can imagine. Samji, dressed in pastel colors, talks in the sort of tone you tend to hear in apps designed to help insomniacs get to sleep, while a similarly relaxing tune burbles along in the background. Is Samji explaining Windows 10’s key principles, or attempting to hypnotize the viewers? Watch the video and decide for yourself.

In the 4.37 minute promo he talks about the Start menu, what consumers wanted from it, and how it becomes your "digital dashboard", before going on to talk about how Microsoft blended touch with keyboard and mouse support. He then speaks about how Microsoft has tried to make the most productive desktop, and touches on features such as the new Edge browser and the Windows Store.

The new elements are presented with lots of hand gesturing, like the sort of thing QVC models are particularly good at.

Interestingly, while Samji is demoing the system tray and Action Center we get to see he’s using Windows 10 Pro Build 10157 rather than the newest build, 10240.

He ends the video saying Windows 10 will be familiar and modern, which is a theme Microsoft has pushed in previous videos (and indeed at the opening of this one there’s a mention of Windows 10 being familiar and fresh), although if you’re a bit tired when you start watching it, you may not make it this far.
