How unsafe is the Internet of Things?

Internet of things

The Internet of Things is here to stay, but it presents a number of new security risks. Despite this, 81 percent of companies say they intend to roll out IoT devices by 2017.

This is according to research from DDoS mitigation specialist Neustar which has produced an infographic looking at the risks the IoT presents.

Among its highlights are that 76 percent of all organizations are investing more than last year in DDoS defense. However, only 34 percent of companies with IoT devices are focused on keeping them secure.

It also shows that 81 percent of companies adopting IoT devices suffered from DDoS attacks last year. More worrying is that 42 percent of these companies didn't realize they were under attack until they were notified by a third-party.
