Transform pictures into LEGO mosaics with Legoaizer

Legoaizer-768x486

Legoaizer is a mosaic builder with a twist. Point the program at a JPG and instead of just pixelating it, Legoaizer creates the mosaic from LEGO bricks. Getting started is easy: open a picture, click "Create Mosaic", and within a few seconds the LEGO-ized version appears.

Spin your mouse wheel over the picture to zoom in and see the individual bricks, then save the image as a JPG, BMP or PNG file.

The results you’ll get can vary, depending on the colors in the source image. If your mosaic doesn’t look much like the picture, you’re able to play around with color and resolution settings to try and get a closer match.

In a surprising bonus feature, Legoaizer can also convert AVI videos into a LEGO version of themselves, essentially transforming each frame into a separate mosaic.

This process takes a while, and the loss of detail means you need to choose your source clip with care. But if your movie is short, and has significant changes in color, or contrast, or view, then the results can be good.

Legoaizer has some issues. Just like Wordaizer from the same developer, it prompts us to run as an administrator on every launch -- why does it need extra security privileges? And when we do run it as admin, why does it display the same message anyway?

The license isn’t exactly clear, either. It’s freeware, we’re told, but apparently some features (we don’t know which) will disappear after a grace period (we don’t know how long that is), and to restore them will cost from 39 Euros.

Don’t let that put you off, because there are no marketing hassles with the program itself, and Legoaizer can produce some impressive effects. Just don’t wait for long after installation to explore the program’s features -- there’s no telling when they might expire.

Legoaizer is available for Windows XP and later.
