Best Windows apps this week

One-hundred and eighty-nine in a series. Welcome to this week's overview of the best apps, games and extensions released for Windows 8.x and Windows 10 in the past seven days.

Major applications like Dropbox or Viber were updated this week with new functionality.

There's no application of the week this time though.

As always, if I missed an app or game that has been released this week that you believe is particularly good, let me know in the comments below or notify me via email instead.

The following apps and games are discounted by at least 50 percent this week:

Amazon Assistant (Edge Extension)

amazon

Amazon Assistant is a browser extension for Microsoft Edge to improve your shopping experience.

American Express

american

Technically not new, American Express pulled its app some time from Windows Store and re-released it this week.

Sign in to your American Express account to pay bills, enroll in AutoPay and Paperless Statements, check activity, access billing statements and view your FICO score.

Only available to users from the US (even though you may install it if you don't live in the US).

Client for tvTube

client-tvtube

The application lets you watch and download videos from everybody's favorite video site YouTube.

Search videos using the app, play them in the interface, and download videos or audio-only copies to your local system.

The app is ad driven currently which is a bit unfortunate as some ads are not static but dynamic; you may find that distracting when watching videos using the app.

Fast Post

fast-post

Fast Post is a note taking application for Windows 10 that supports Windows Ink. Create notes from within the app or from Action Center, use keyboard input and Windows Ink, and customize size and background color of each note.

Saves information automatically, and creates live tiles for notes to display them on the start screen.

Gym Radio

gym

The free version of the application offers three radio streams --- cardio, gym and hardcore -- designed to motivate you while training.

Premium users get offline access, options to skip songs, more songs, and no ads on top of that.

Monocle Giraffe

monocle

Monocle Giraffe is an image browser for Reddit and Imgur that is easy to use yet quite powerful.

It lets you browse any subreddit for instance, including NSFW ones, and displays images in a never ending stream of pictures.

All images are displayed as thumbnails; a click switches to an image browser that displays individual images in full window view mode.

Notable updates

Dropbox  picked up an update that introduces several new features. Print documents stored on Dropbox, share individual files with one user, create and manage password protected shared links, and open the last visited tab automatically on start.

Sengoku Jidai, a turn-based strategy game, is now free to play.

Viber updated for preview builds of Windows with video call functionality.
