Camtasia 9 license now gets you Windows and Mac versions

Camtasia

TechSmith has unveiled Camtasia 9 ($199), a major release for the comprehensive video creator.

License changes don’t usually top the "new features" list, but this one is big: buying a single license now allows you to install Camtasia on both Windows and Mac.

Behaviors are new motion effects -- bounces, rolls, fades, slides, jumps -- for your text, images and video. You can apply them by dragging and dropping, or fine-tune every aspect of the animation to suit your needs.

A library of "Video Assets" gives you intro slides, backgrounds, music tracks, icons and assorted other professionally-designed components, ready to enhance your projects.

New video editing options include adjustments for colors, brightness, contrast and saturation.

The program is now 64-bit only, which should improve performance in some areas.

An interface redesign has changed the layout in some places, updated icons and made some very drastic changes to some of the menus. Fortunately, TechSmith has gone to a lot of trouble to explain exactly what's changed and help long-term users adapt, and you'll find a guide here.

Even the list of "additional updates" has some important extras, including animated GIF support, and a Properties panel for precise control of every timeline element.

Camtasia 9 can be yours for $199, or $99.50 as an upgrade, and a 30-day-trial is available.

Camtasia requires 64-bit Windows 7 or later.
