Microsoft expands Surface Book lineup with new 512GB model

Available in a multitude of configurations, the Surface Book can meet the needs of many buyers in the premium segment. But, just in case you are looking for even more flexibility, Microsoft has introduced a new model in the range, which offers a higher storage capacity at a price that does not break the bank.

The Surface Book range is now comprised of seven models, four of which feature dedicated graphics. The other three -- the latest one included -- come with Intel's HD graphics, which is less powerful but not as costly an option. So, what does the new Surface Book model offer?

Well, the main thing that you should know is that it comes with 512GB of storage and is based on the Intel Core i5 setup that is also used on the entry-level Surface Book models. The most affordable versions of the device come with 128GB and 256GB of storage and do not have the dedicated graphics option.

Microsoft has introduced this model to satisfy the needs of potential Surface Book buyers who are not interested in the dedicated graphics option but want to have access to more storage than the base models can deliver. As a result, the price is kept in check (somewhat), as the 512GB Surface Book with a Core i5 processor comes in at $1,999.

As it stands, it is $100 more expensive than the $1,899 Surface Book with 256GB of storage, a Core i5 processor and dedicated graphics, and $100 less expensive than the $2,099 Surface Book with 256GB of storage, a Core i7 processor and dedicated graphics. For a buyer who is not set on having 512GB of storage in their Surface Book, the $1,899 model mentioned above is a better option.

All of the three models discussed here have 8GB of RAM, but the dGPU ones pack an Nvidia GeForce option which is better suited to handle games and resource-intensive applications that make use of the graphics card. Also, keep in mind that you are looking at the non-Performance Base iteration, which Microsoft unveiled last week.

The 512GB Surface Book with a Core i5 processor is available to pre-order now from Microsoft Store. The device will ship on November 10.
