Network Solutions Offers 10-Year .Com Registrations
Network Solutions Inc., the oldest and largest of the nation's Internet registrars, followed in the recent footsteps of its young competitors today, announcing that it will now offer flexible-term domain name registrations.
Rather than be forced to register a .com name for a standard two-year term, Network Solutions customers will now be able to register names for up to 10 years, Network Solutions spokesperson Brian O'Shaughnessy said today.
Network Solutions follows fledgling registrars Register.com, Tucows.com and Internet Names WorldWide, all of which recently added 10-year domain name registrations to their service offerings.
Expanded service offerings have marked an explosion of increased competition in the domain name registration of late.
Network Solutions further announced that 240 of its existing customers have already taken advantage of the flexible term registrations, extending their existing registrations to 10 years.
Amazon.com, NASDAQ and New Balance were among the companies that opted to renew their registrations for 10 years.
Network Solutions also intends soon to join the list of Internet registrars who offer 60-plus character domain names rather than limiting customers to industry-standard 26-character names, O'Shaughnessy told Newsbytes.
Internet Names Worldwide announced Monday that it had registered the first 10-year domain name, 10yeardomain.com for one of its partners.
