MP3.com Picks FusionOne For Music Library Synching

Fusion One Inc., whose technology helps users
synchronize data on Net-connected (but far-flung) PCs, handheld
devices and wireless phones, will be helping to tame music
collections for MP3.com subscribers.

The two companies announced a deal today through which online
music destination MP3.com will enable FusionOne's Internet sync
technology for its subscribers. That technology makes it possible
for users to automatically make information stored on one device -
such as e-mail, documents and Web-browser bookmarks - available
on any other device running FusionOne's software.

FusionOne users can synchronize selected content of PCs at home and
work, or make their desktop's personal organizer data available on
their wireless Palm device or Web-enabled mobile phone without
connecting the devices with cables or infrared beams.

"Traditionally, file synchronization has been limited to device-to-
device sync," said Rick Onyon, president and CEO of FusionOne. "Now,
when an MP3.com user downloads a selection, their song will appear
on all of their personal devices, without the need to duplicate the
downloading process."

FusionOne spokesperson Raphel Finelli told Newsbytes that, while
his company supports synchronization of some data on mobile phones,
few phones support wireless download and play of MP3 files. That
means that MP3.com subscribers won't be mirroring their music
collections on their phones right away.

Beginning today, MP3.com users downloading music from the San
Diego, Calif., company's Web site will see a button that can fire
up FusionOne's 1-Click Sync software. Users who have already
installed the FusionOne software can send their chosen MP3
download to all their synched devices simply by clicking that button.

Finelli said that the FusionOne "store-and-forward" Internet sync
technology doesn't raise new legal issues for MP3.com file
transfers, since MP3.com users can currently download only those
tracks made available for transfer by recording companies and
artists.
