Microsoft releases major firmware update for Surface Book, Surface Pro 4

Microsoft just released the second firmware updates for Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 this month, announcing a significant number of improvements. Two days ago the software giant introduced a driver update to improve the stability of Windows Hello after the upcoming Anniversary Update for Windows 10 is installed.

The new firmware updates for Surface Book and Surface Pro 4, dated July 14, share the same changes, though Microsoft lists different driver versions for certain components. Here is what you should expect.

    • v88.1226.257.0/v103.1226.256.0 improves the stability of the keyboard when the device resumes from hibernation or connected standby mode.

  • Intel(R) HD Graphics 520
    • v20.19.15.4463 improves system performance in some applications.
  • Surface Pen Settings
    • v12.0.303.1 improves the stability of the pen settings and prepares for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

    • v8.20.0.931 improves audio stability.

The Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 firmware updates are rolling out now to users via Windows Update. Microsoft says that it may take some time for the firmware updates to reach all devices, as they are "delivered in stages". The latest firmware updates include all of the changes introduced by previous versions.
