Rock Jaw Clarito earphones: Stylish, budget-priced audio [Review]

Rock Jaw Clarito

Last year we reviewed the Rock Jaw Alfa Genius V2 earphones and they impressed with their adjustable filters, offering a premium listening experience at a mid-range price.

Even so, not everyone is prepared to spend more than $60 on a pair of earphones, so now British company Rock Jaw is targeting more frugal listeners with the new Clarito.

Like the company's more expensive offering these come in a smart package containing the aluminum bodied earphones, three different sizes of silicone ear piece, a cable clip and a soft carrying pouch. The 90-degree jack plug is gold plated and the whole package has a quality feel to it.

There's no in-line microphone though, so these are purely for listening, not for making phone calls. They also lack the tuneable audio experience of their more expensive cousins. The cable is a decent length (1.2 meters) for listening to an MP3 player or smartphone in your pocket, but a bit short for use with a PC under your desk. It is rather thicker than most earphone leads though which means it resists tangling well.

They're a bit lighter in weight than the Alfa Genius but the Clarito earphones still look and feel good with a shiny gray finish and clear left and right markers. That lower weight also makes them more comfortable to wear for long periods.

The important thing of course is the listening experience and the Clarito delivers here too. Thanks to 8mm dynamic drivers and a frequency range from 108+/-3db, they deliver clear, bright sounds and good levels of bass, without becoming distorted until you get to uncomfortably high volumes.

With their smart design, light weight and decent listening experience, if you're looking to upgrade the standard earphones that came with your MP3 player or other device but don't want to spend too much the Rock Jaw Clarito is definitely an option worth considering.

The Clarito costs $31.98 (£23.95 in the UK) including shipping, direct from the Rock Jaw website where you can also find full technical details.
