Apple's disappointing Black Friday deals -- gift cards worth up to $150 with every order

After years of avoiding getting in on the Black Friday action, 2016 sees Apple finally letting its hair down and joining in with everyone else. Earlier in the week we learned that there were some treats in store, and today we can reveal what they are.

If you were hoping to save some money on a new MacBook Pro (2016) or to bag yourself a cheap iPhone, you're going to be disappointed. Apple is not offering any Black Friday discounts whatsoever; instead the company is giving away gift cards worth up to $150 with every order placed. So here's the lowdown.

Unsurprisingly, to qualify for a $150 gift card, you're going to need to part with a decent chunk of cash in the first place. In fact, you'll need to buy a MacBook, a MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air, an iMac or a Mac Pro -- meaning spending at least $999.

If you buy an iPad, you can earn yourself up to $100 worth of gift cards while select iPhones come with a $50 gift card. $25 gift cards are also bundled with Apple Watch Series 1 purchases, and Apple TV.

While it's great to see Apple taking part in Black Friday, it's hard to imagine that people won’t be a little disappointed with the 'one day shopping event'. If you were already in the market for any of the devices included in the offer, it’s a good time to buy -- if you were going to buy a MacBook Pro anyway, a $150 gift card thrown in is not to be sniffed at! -- but most people probably would have preferred to see a bit of money shaved off the selling price instead.
