Clean, secure and optimize your PC with Steganos Tuning PRO

Steganos Tuning PRO is a PC maintenance suite for cleaning, optimizing and securing your PC. It’s a commercial product, and pricey at $49.95 for a year, although that does at least cover you for 3 devices.

The program offers all the core functions you’d expect: junk file removal, Registry cleaning and defragging, startup program control, automatic updates for applications and drivers, tuning of Windows settings, power optimizations, a defragger for your hard drives, and more.

You can use these almost entirely automatically, allowing Steganos Tuning PRO to detect any problems and hitting "Optimize" to fix them all at once.

If you like to take more control, it’s easy to view a summary of each section: the number of services to be optimized, startup tweaks required, the total size of junk files found, and so on.

You can drill down further, view the full list of junk files, or the startup settings to be tweaked, and maybe carry out some actions. We were able to deselect a folder of files we’d like to keep, for instance, then apply one startup tweak with a click while ignoring all the others.

This flexibility is one of the program’s strong points. You’re not forced into a strict workflow of "scan everything, adjust recommendations, apply what’s left", but can jump around, optimize one module here, make a change or two there, whatever suits your needs.

The problem isn’t just about automatic optimizations. It also has manual tools including undelete, secure file wiping, and a Multimedia Data Manager which aims to help you manage large media files.

Some of these extras are a little basic, unfortunately, so for example the undelete tool can find your lost images, but not display any preview. Even many free tools will do more.

Put it all together and Steganos Tuning PRO is a capable suite in some ways, but we can’t see enough power here to justify the price.
