I walked away impressed after reviewing the Chuwi LapBook 14.1. There's something charming about a laptop that gets the basics right at an affordable price point. The new LapBook 12.3 is shaping up to be even more impressive, featuring more attractive hardware at a still-competitive price.

The LapBook 12.3 is designed for consumers in the market for a more portable laptop, featuring a 12.3-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2,736 by 1,824. That's pretty impressive for a budget offering, considering that there are premium laptops that ship with lesser screens.

The processor is an Intel Apollo Lake N3450, coupled with HD Graphics and 6GB of RAM. The processor is optimized for battery life rather than performance, but it should still deliver a solid performance for casual tasks, like browsing. Powering the device is a 36.48Wh battery.

Chuwi equips the LapBook 12.3 with 64GB of storage, of the eMMC type, and a TF/microSD card slot. It is also said to support M.2 SSDs up to 256GB in size though, so if you want better performance there's that route to consider.

Other things that you should know: it has a USB 3.0 and a USB 2.0 port, a mini HDMI port, Intel 3165 (802.11ac) Wi-Fi with Bluetooth, and a 2MP camera as well. The device measures 300 by 223 by 16.7mm and weighs 1.42kg.

Chuwi says that it will be available with Windows 10 and, maybe, Ubuntu too. The operating system choices are still being considered, but the price and availability are final. It will be available for $349, in May. If it's as good as the specs indicate, it'll offer great value for money.
