Logitech unveils K840 Mechanical Keyboard for non-gamers

Mechanical keyboards are excellent for many tasks, but for some reason, they have recently become largely associated with gaming only. This is a shame, as typists can benefit greatly from a quality mechanical keyboard. There is no reason that office workers should be made to suffer through using low-quality keyboards.

Apparently, Logitech wasn't happy with these keyboards only being designed for, and marketed to, gamers. Today, the company unveils a new conservatively designed mechanical keyboard for office use. The K840, as it is called, is devoid of flashy lights and colors, making it more appropriate for a business setting.

Don't worry, it uses the same quality Romer-G switches as the company's gaming models. In fact, it seems to be very similar to the company's G413 for gamers. Where the K840 differs is the lack of replaceable gaming key caps, LED lighting, and USB port pass-through. It also costs $10 less than the gaming model, making it an easier sell when asking your boss to authorize the upgrade.

"Today, we're happy to share that we’ve taken our experience in creating mechanical gaming keyboards to create a new mechanical keyboard for the office. Whether you just want a better everyday typing experience, or you do a lot of intensive writing, coding or programming, the Logitech K840 Mechanical Keyboard is for you.  The keyboard features Logitech’s exclusive Romer-G mechanical switches, giving near instant key feedback, in an anodized aluminum body with a modern textured finish that fits in any workspace," says Logitech.

The company also says, "Expertly engineered to last for more than 70 million keystrokes, each key gives you long term reliability and minimizes fatigue over long typing sessions. It also comes with enhanced productivity features, such as a Windows Lock function that prevents an inadvertent press of the Windows key, and easy access to media and shortcut keys for control of your entertainment."

Keep in mind, even though this is designed for office work and general typing, there is absolutely no reason a gamer cannot use it too. In fact, I suspect gamers that want a more conservative design will flock to this offering.

If you want to buy the Logitech K840 Mechanical Keyboard, you can pre-order it today for a reasonable $79.99 here. It is not yet known when it will begin shipping, however.
