OnePlus 5 has an audio problem too

There is no such thing as a problem-free smartphone, and the OnePlus 5 is no exception. A few issues have cropped up since customers started getting their hands on the new flagship killer, and now we can add one more to that list.

The OnePlus 5 exhibits a rather strange audio recording behavior, wherein holding the smartphone in a certain way causes the audio channels to be inverted. Could this be another case of "you're holding it wrong?"

Here's what happens. When you record video in landscape mode, with the OnePlus 5 positioned so that its home button is to the left, the left and right channels should reflect this specific orientation. However, what happens is the left channel has sounds picked up from the right of the device and the right channel from the left, so, when you play a video, you'll get inverted audio.

What is particularly interesting is that this issue only occurs when holding the OnePlus 5 exactly like that. Hold it so that the home button is to the right and you will not run into it. To top it all off, the OnePlus 3T apparently exhibits the same behavior too.

OnePlus is apparently aware of this issue and working on a software fix for it, which leads me to believe that it may just be the software that isn't well optimized and not the hardware that causes the problem. The next update should fix it, hopefully alongside other problems.

This issue is not something that you can notice when playing videos on the device, because the OnePlus 5 only has a single speaker so there is no stereo output. However, if you play the video below using headphones, you will notice it.
