Why you should be moving to the cloud

Clouds

Whilst not a brand-new phenomenon, the cloud has dominated headlines in the technology sector in recent years, as more businesses migrate and harness the benefits associated with it.

Cloud computing involves businesses hosting data, applications and virtual machines (VMs) on servers in remote data centers, which are connected to devices and users through the internet or private networks.

Use of the cloud has been a natural adoption for consumers, but it’s providing trickier to implement for organizations. Business leaders face a myriad of stumbling blocks including legacy systems that prevent integration, shadow IT purchases and resistance from around the business.

With over 1EB (that’s Exabyte, FYI) of data already stored in the cloud, it’s clear that this phenomenon will only grow as businesses adopt the technology and migrate not only data, but applications and servers to the cloud. 69 percent of Chief Information Officers (CIOs) are planning on spending a significant amount of money on cloud technology, and 63% expect to move their entire IT infrastructures into the cloud.

This infographic, produced by TSG, includes some key statistics on the cloud around adoption and current usage, as well as the key benefits of moving to the cloud including lower costs, added flexibility and scalability. It also unravels the jargon around the different types of clouds: public, private and hybrid, giving a good insight into why more businesses than ever are utilizing the cloud.
