Intel's 8th-gen processors help deliver secure payments

Earlier this month we saw Intel launch its new 8th-generation Core processors. As well as improved performance, these chips offer added security with Intel Software Guard Extensions (Intel SGX) technology.

Thanks to a collaboration with authentication specialist Nok Nok Labs (NNL) the new chips with SGX are able to deliver standards-based authentication to enable stronger, simpler, and more secure payments for computer users.

The NNL S3 Authentication Suite is certified by the Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) Alliance which was founded to solve the problems that users face creating, remembering and relying on multiple usernames and passwords.

"Passwords are a problem. This problem goes beyond mobile devices and creates a stumbling block for every online service we consume. The collaboration that Nok Nok Labs has had, and continues to have, with Intel has been terrific. Together we are bringing FIDO-certified authentication for new 8th Gen Intel Core processors -- to the personal computer ecosystem," says Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO of Nok Nok Labs. "More and more, FIDO is everywhere. Authentication needs to be secure from the silicon layer to the cloud and it’s been integral to work with Intel in enabling that journey."

By freeing users from the burden of remembering complex passwords, this integrated solution from Intel and NNL will allow consumers to access, and pay for, online services in a way that is more secure and simpler, and will reduce the risks of fraud for the service providers.

"By collaborating with Nok Nok Labs, Intel demonstrates our continued commitment to innovation, simplification, and security of the computing experience," says Rick Echevarria, vice president, Software and Services Group and general manager, Platform Security Division at Intel. "Consumers who choose the latest 8th Gen Intel Core based laptops, will gain access to strong authentication enabling secure payments in a safer, simpler, more hassle-free way."
