Microsoft Betas New Movie Maker, Media Player 9
The beta version of a completely redesigned Windows Movie Maker 2 was released Friday, featuring 30 new video effects, sixty transitions and support for Windows Media Video 9.
"Using state of the art technology, Windows Movie Maker 2 redefines fast and easy home video creation with an intuitive task based interface that teaches you the process as you use it and a new feature called AutoMovie which automatically creates fully edited home movies in just minutes," a Microsoft spokesperson told BetaNews.
AutoMovie allows novice users to produce professional-looking home videos complete with music, titles and transitions.
Because Movie Maker 2 completely replaces the version included with Windows XP, removal of the beta is not possible. Microsoft recommends creating a System Restore point before installing the pre-release.
Microsoft on Friday also announced the availability of Windows Media Player 9 Series Release Candidate 1, signaling near completion of Redmond's next-generation media tools. The release candidate builds upon feedback from previous betas, and includes playlist enhancements, synchronized lyrics support and numerous usability improvements.
As expected, HighM.A.T. CD burning made its way into RC1, along with a new feature dubbed Media Link. Media Link enables users to e-mail links to highlights from streamed news, presentations and home movies.
