Real Opens Helix Producer Source

Continuing efforts it began last July with the release of the Helix DNA Client, RealNetworks this week opened the source code to Helix DNA Producer, the company's tool for creating RealAudio and RealVideo content.

Developers can use the source code to build content creation applications for any operating system using any media format such as QuickTime and Windows Media. Support for RealAudio, RealVideo and Ogg Vorbis is natively included with Helix DNA Producer.

"Now with the Helix DNA Producer we are taking Helix to the next level, by making it easier than ever for developers to create applications for content creation in the professional, industrial and consumer markets," said Rob Glaser, founder and CEO of RealNetworks.

Helix DNA Producer will be available under two licenses. The open source release will include binary versions of the RealAudio and RealVideo codecs. Developers wishing to port Helix DNA Producer to other platforms may access the RealAudio and RealVideo source code with a commercial community source license.

Helix DNA Producer and source code may be downloaded via the Helix Community, RealNetworks' portal for its open source initiatives.
