IObit's Smart Defrag 4 adds Game Defrag, new engine
IObit has announced the release of Smart Defrag 4.0, a major update for its freeware PC maintenance app.
A new Game Defrag mode brings program-specific speedups. Just point Smart Defrag at a shortcut or executable -- it doesn’t have to be a game, any bulky application could benefit -- and the program will optimize it for you.
If you’re aiming to defrag your entire system, a new Smart Optimize function will automatically choose the best method. If you prefer to take full control then you can still manually choose one of four options: defrag, defrag and fast optimize, defrag and fully optimize, defrag and prioritize files.
Whatever you’re doing, a new defrag engine reduces CPU usage and improves performance, while Trim support may improve results with SSDs.
The official release notes mention an "accessible disk map optimized for color-challenged viewers". This doesn’t look too different to us, but if you are color-challenged then maybe it’ll help.
Smart Defrag 4.0 is presented in a revamped interface, aimed at making it even easier to use. The new release still works with every version of Windows from 2000 up, and it’s available for download now.
