1Password 6 for Mac debuts new All Vaults view, word-based password generation
AgileBits has released 1Password for Mac 6 a major new update for its Mac password manager client. The app, which works in conjunction with 1Password for iOS 6.2 as well Windows and Android apps, features a number of new and improved features.
The new release kicks off with a brand new All Vaults view. It enables users to view all items in both the main app and 1Password mini view without having to move between vaults.
The All Vaults view has been designed to be fully customizable, allowing users to pick and choose exactly which vaults are displayed, whether it’s family, business or personal.
The new release also responds to user feedback by revamping its Strong Password Generator. The feature now includes the wordlist password generator previously introduced to the iOS version. Selecting Words generates passwords based on random words from a list as opposed to the random numbers, letters and characters. AgileBits promises word-based passwords do not come with the risk of being easier to crack or guess.
Another new feature is the rolling out of iCloud sync to versions of the Mac app purchased directly from AgileBits; previously the feature was restricted to those who bought it through the Mac App Store.
1Password for Mac 6 also adds support for adding 1Password for Teams vaults to the app -- a Teams-only setup mode has been added to help those 1Password for Teams users who’ve never used the app before.
Other changes included a revamped first-run process, new and simpler Save Login window for web browsers and various improvements, performance tweaks and fixes -- a full changelog is available online. The update is free for all version 4 and 5 users.
1Password for iOS 6.2 also gets an update, with improvements to search, the ability to copy and move items between vaults, and 3D Touch support among its highlights.
1Password for Mac 6 is available now as a free trial download, as is 1Password for Windows 4.6 and 1Password for Android 4.5.3, while 1Password for iOS 6.2 is free (with in-app Pro license costing $9.99). A single Mac or Windows license costs $49.99.
