Mint SIM delivers mobile for the cord-cutting generation -- 20 percent discount for BetaNews readers
Choosing the right mobile plan can be a minefield, requiring you to balance your needs for voice, texts and data against the performance of the service provider and the monthly costs.
US company Mint SIM is seeking to shake things up with a phone service for today's agile, digitally savvy generation. It offers a model that is platform agnostic and not tied to a particular phone or OS.
With Mint's pay-up-front, multi-month plans, users get bigger discounts against the fastest voice and 4G LTE network. You can choose to pay for your phone plan up front for a year, and not have to worry about it for 12 months. Choose plans to suit your needs, selecting how many months you want up front, Mint then sends you a SIM, and at the end of the cycle you recharge for another service. The company describes it as a mobile service for the cord-cutting generation.
"We live in a society where the most innovative brands are breaking traditional norms and establishing their own paradigm shifts. We should demand the same innovation and disruptive category thinking with our wireless plans," says Aron North SVP marketing at Ultra Mobile. "At Mint, our 'Buy More, Save More' philosophy coupled with our completely digital business model matches this shift in culture. As a result, we are offering our customers multi-month plans, at industry leading best prices, and the added simplicity of completing your transactions online. We believe these offerings are the new normal, and Mint is pioneering the shift and playing disruptor in the pre-paid telecom industry."
Among key features of Mint's service are premium 4G LTE data, Mint reaches over 300 million people across the US. There's no annual contract and users can easily change out of their plan whenever they want with zero charges.
International roaming is made simple too with UpRoam. This lets Mint SIM subscribers add money to their international roaming balance in amounts of $5, $10 or $20 at a time. Subscribers can UpRoam by logging into their account online, or by texting 'UPROAM' to 6700 from their Mint SIM phone.
Mint SIM users with certain Android phones have the ability to use a Wi-Fi network to make or receive calls and text messages. This allows them to stay in touch in areas with unpredictable coverage.
BetaNews readers can get 20 percent off 6-12 month plans by using the code betanews20 on the Mint SIM website. The code is valid until April 11.
