Intel Macs, Plasma TVs at Macworld?

With the keynote address from Apple CEO Steve Jobs less than 24 hours away, the rumor mill has shifted into overdrive concerning what the company will unveil on Tuesday at Macworld in San Francisco.

These rumors range from the believable -- that some type of Intel Mac would be announced at the show -- to the more outlandish, including speculation that Apple could be set to introduce its own line of plasma televisions based around its Front Row media center application.

For months, both analysts and enthusiast sites alike have speculated that Apple would announce Intel-based Macintoshes about six months earlier than expected at the January show.

Most sites point to the iBook and Mac Mini as the first two products to move to the new platform. Some analysts have suggested the PowerBook line may also see a refresh to ensure the top-of-the line model continues to hold the distinction of being the company's most powerful laptop.

Analysts and rumor sites also are pointing to yet more content deals for the iTunes Music Store. ThinkSecret claims that Steve Jobs' keynote will run at least 90 minutes due in part to the amount of new deals being announced, as Jobs would share the stage with his new partners.

Possible content additions could include TV shows from CBS, Fox and WB networks, which have yet to announce availability of programming for the video iPod. Even full-length feature films are rumored to be on tap.

An update to the iPod Shuffle is also expected, as the device is the only player not to be changed over the past year. Although details are slim, rumors indicate the device could be shrunk even further, along with the addition of a one line screen and availability in several colors.

Various rumors have cropped up over the weekend, including claims that Apple would introduce plasma televisions. According to reports, 42-inch and 50-inch widescreen televisions would be introduced at pricepoints of $2,599 and $3,299 USD. Other rumors indicate a possible update to iWork.

Jobs is known to feign ending his keynotes, then announce, "Oh, and one more thing." Thus, Apple could have something up its sleeve for Tuesday that no one knows about, analysts say.
