Kaspersky releases 2013 security suites -- get them NOW!

virus malwareThe betas are over, the final bugs squashed (well, hopefully), and Kaspersky Lab has just revealed the final versions of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2013.

And while outwardly the new packages look very similar to the previous versions, explore a little further and there are some useful additions and improvements to be found.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 now protects your online banking, shopping and payment services with “Safe Money”, for instance, a reworking of the previous Safe Run technology. Go to pay for an eBay item, say, and the program will automatically detect you’re heading to a sensitive URL, verify the site’s authenticity, open it in a protected browser, and provide a virtual keyboard to help you bypass keyloggers.

We’re yet to fully test this technology, but it’s already received a glowing response, with Matousec reporting that Safe Money blocked 100 percent of their attacks in a recent trial.

Both Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 now include Kaspersky’s Automatic Exploit Prevention engine, which uses a combination of techniques to prevent malware from using even zero-day software vulnerabilities to infect your PC. A white paper on the Kaspersky site explains some of the background.

And there are plenty of worthwhile improvements to be found elsewhere. Phishing site detection is more reliable, for instance; the spam filter is more accurate; browser compatibility has been extended, both programs use less system resources, and they’ve been optimised to have a reduced impact on Windows and application launch times.

Or, if you’d prefer just to check out the programs for yourself, 30-day trial versions of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 are available now.
