Windows 8 UX Pack and Windows 8 Transformation Pack adds further fixes and refinements
WindowsX has released Windows 8 UX Pack 9.0 and Windows 8 Transformation Pack 9.0, new builds for its Windows skinning tools.
Each tool allows users to emulate the newer Windows 8.1 user interface on PCs running older versions of Windows -- the UX Pack works with Windows 7 or later, the Transformation Pack works with Vista and XP also.
Two changes of note have been applied to both UX Pack 9.0 and Transformation Pack 9.0. Both now use the cacls program rather than icacls to apply permission changes, while the default Immersive UI has been changed to Charms Bar for performance reasons.
Both also see a fix to the way the UXStyle theme is loaded, improving its compatibility. The RocketDock’s Charms Bar Start logo has also been updated, while the Newgen Store widget has been replaced with a Desktop one.
The Transformation Pack 9.0 gains one further change that sees the system files update detection set to a warning level that allows installation. The system files permission application has also been removed to allow for a smoother install process.
Both Windows 8 UX Pack 9.0 and Windows 8 Transformation Pack 9.0 are available now as freeware downloads for non-Windows 8.1 PCs.
