Turn your Raspberry Pi into a 3D Christmas tree with this new board

Christmas Tree Pi 3D

If you need help to get into the festive spirit, and an Eggnog Latte from Starbucks isn’t quite cutting it, perhaps transforming a Raspberry Pi into an illuminated 3D Christmas tree will do the trick.

The Pi Hut has created a Christmas tree board kit that you simply assemble and plug into your Pi. Once done, sit back and feel the joys of the holiday season as they come rushing towards you. Ho, ho, and indeed ho.

The tree offers 25 individually controlled LEDs -- 24 red and one white (for the star on top), and hidden "stars" cut at different PCB depths to let the LEDs shine through the tree. There's also a "To / From" section on the board edge if you want to give it to someone as an early Christmas gift.

The kit contains the following:

  • 1 x 3D Tree PCB
  • 24 x Red 3mm LED
  • 1 x White 3mm LED
  • 25 x 120 ohm resistors
  • 1 x Right angle 2x20 header
  • 1 x Right angle 20 way snap off headers

The 3D Xmas Tree Kit for Raspberry Pi is priced at £15 (around $20) and you can get it from here. It’s currently listed as being sold out, but it’s actually in production now. If you want one, click the Notify Me button and you’ll be alerted when it goes into stock.Christmas tree Pi 1
