Enterprises struggle to balance data retention costs with compliance

A new survey of 300 IT and security professionals, commissioned by Red Canary and conducted by Censuswide, finds that just 35 percent of data stored in legacy SIEMs delivers tangible value for threat detection.

In addition, only 13 percent of organizations separate out low value data for cheaper storage in a raw data repository. Due to SIEM storage costs, 68 percent of IT security decision makers say they discard low value data and have to hope they won't regret it.

Data governance is top enterprise priority when introducing AI

IT and business leaders are largely allowing employee use of generative AI but the majority (66 percent) are concerned about the data governance risks from AI, including privacy, security and the lack of data source transparency in vendor solutions.

The latest 2023 State of Unstructured Data Management survey from Komprise is based on responses from 300 global enterprise storage IT and business decision makers at companies with more than 1,000 employees in the US and UK, and finds 90 percent of organizations allow employee use of generative AI.

Two out of three companies lose data due to failed backups

Of the 90 percent of UK enterprises that have been forced to turn to their backup system, only 27 percent were able to recover all of their information and documents -- down from 45 percent in 2022.

A survey from encrypted drive maker Apricorn finds 32 percent of the security decision makers in large enterprises surveyed attributed the unsuccessful recovery to a lack of robust backup processes, up from two percent in 2022.
