Salesforce attack exposed Google Ads customer data

Google has revealed more details about an attack on one of its corporate Salesforce instances. The company now says that the attack exposed user data of Google Ads customers.

The security issue was spotted by Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) back in June. Activity by UNC6040 – described as a financially motivated threat cluster that specializes in voice phishing (vishing) – hit Salesforce and subsequent investigations have revealed the extent and impact of the attacks.

Short-lived ransomware group SatanLock to close down and leak data

There are large numbers of ransomware groups operating around the world, some of which have been conducting their nefarious work for years. There are older which are rather less long in the tooth, such as the recently formed SatanLock.

The group has been in existence for mere months, popping up in April this year. Responsible for a spate of attacks over a number of weeks, the ransomware group has announced that it is already shutting up shop. More than this, it plans to leak any data it has stolen.

38 percent think personal data theft is unavoidable

As we carry out more and more of our everyday transactions online, so the risk of falling victim to cybercrime increases too.

New research from CybSafe and the National Cybersecurity Alliance shows that 61 percent of respondents worry about becoming cybercrime victims and 38 percent believe personal data theft is unavoidable.

Data theft overtakes ransomware as IT pro's biggest worry

Of over 200 IT security decision makers surveyed, data theft is cited as the biggest concern by 55 percent, followed by phishing (35 percent) with ransomware taking third place on 29 percent.

The study from Integrity360 shows that in terms of actual incidents phishing is the most common (46 percent), with data theft second on 27 percent. Ransomware, at only 15 percent, is ranked among the least common incidents being seen by businesses.
