Drift Ghost 4K action camera features modular design
Drift Innovation today takes the wraps off a new action camera called Drift Ghost 4K. It is the first in the company's lineup to come with a modular design and 4K video recording, and, just like its predecessors, is likely to appeal to bicyclists and motorcyclists looking for an action camera optimized for helmet mounting.
The modular design offers a great deal of versatility, as it allows users to extend the battery life, attach an LCD viewfinder or add 4G cellular connectivity to the Drift Ghost 4K using dedicated modules that can be attached to the side of the body.
"We wanted to go a step further with our Ghost design to add not only a creative spin but a major advancement to ensure that our Ghost fans are experiencing something truly special. We’re putting the power back into the hands of the user and offering them the freedom to film their lives the way that they want to", says Sab Jhooti, CEO of Drift Innovation. "As excited as we are about this new modular design and the advanced technology, we are even more excited to see what our fans create".
Drift Innovation has not specifically mentioned that the modules are included in the box, which leads me to believe that they will be optional add-ons that users will have to purchase separately. The Drift Ghost 4K should ship with a panel that covers the "modular side dock", out of the box.
The addition of 4K video recording should not come as a surprise, as basically every premium action camera that comes out these days offers it. What is quite interesting is the fact that users will be able to shoot 1080p video at 120FPS and 2.7K video at 60FPS, which should lead to smoother videos both under normal conditions and slow-motion conversions.
The Drift Ghost 4K also comes with electronic image stabilization, that is made possible using a buit-in gyroscope. It will be interesting to see how efficient it is and how much it affects video quality, as other action cameras I have used with this feature failed to impress.
Other noteworthy features include an Instant On mode that lets users record videos more quickly, HDR photos, small LCD screen at the rear of the camera, timelapse photos and videos, wireless remote, rotatable lens, Car DVR mode, and a mobile app for Android and iOS.
Drift Innovation will introduce the Drift Ghost 4K at IFA 2016, which officially takes place between September 4 and September 7, in Berlin. There is no pricing information yet, but the company says that its latest action camera will be available starting in October.
