PLUG aims to be the world's most powerful battery pack

Having once had a phone die on me in an important moment while traveling I’ve learned not to go any distance without a battery pack with me, just in case. I also use the ThinCharge case for my iPhone, which I reviewed here.

ChargeTech, which makes that battery case, has produced a new battery pack that essentially lets you take a wall outlet with you. You can charge any device, including laptops, and also power equipment from it.

PLUG comes with a massive 48,000mAh battery (powered using Tesla Battery Cells) and has two AC outlets offering up to 250 Watt capacity.

There are also two Fast Charge USB ports, a USB Type C output, and a dedicated charging port.

It can, the company says, charge 28 phones, 7 tablets, 2-3 laptops and countless other devices, and also power a TV for up to four hours, and a mini-fridge for up to eight hours.

Pass-through charging means you can charge your devices and PLUG at the same time (the pack takes around 7 hours to fully charge), and it’s even solar rechargeable if you have (or buy) a solar panel.

The battery pack measures 8.6 x 5.6 x 1.6in, so it will fit in a bag easily, and weighs 2lbs, 14 ounces.

PLUG is currently seeking funding on IndieGoGo where it has already raised $135,277 -- 451 percent of its original $30,000 flexible goal -- in the first 24 hours.

If you want to get your hands on the battery pack it will currently set you back $199, but the price will rise in the coming days so you’ll need to get your pledge in early. The retail price is $329.

A word of warning: Airlines have restrictions on battery packs which PLUG will breach, so you likely won’t be able to take it on a flight with you. Check before traveling.
