Social media and marketplace scams surge ahead of the holiday season
New research from online protection company Malwarebytes exposes how social media and online marketplaces have become hotbeds for holiday shopping scams.
It finds that 51 percent of people encounter scams on social media weekly while an unlucky 27 percent meet scams daily. For marketplace shoppers, 36 percent are hit with a scam weekly and 15 percent experience one daily.
Shoppers willing to hand over personal data to get a holiday bargain
A new survey from Norton shows that 60 percent of UK holiday shoppers say they are swayed by good holiday deals and nearly two-thirds (61 percent) give away their personal information to receive a discount when shopping.
The study reveals that 70 percent of Brits have tried to secure discount codes, through means like signing up to a website's mailing list or answering a survey. 61 percent of those who tried to secure discounts admit to divulging their personal information to do so.
Amazon announces Prime Big Deal Days for October 8-9
Amazon has announced that Prime Big Deal Days will take place from October 8 to October 9, offering discounts for Prime members as the holiday shopping season begins. Starting at 3:01 a.m. EDT on October 8, Prime members will have access to deals on winter fashion items, Halloween costumes, electronics, and more. Amazon Essentials will offer up to 40 percent off on winter clothing, while Halloween costumes and accessories will start at $5. Electronics from brands like Beats, Samsung, and Fujifilm will also be discounted.
Throughout the event, new offers will become available every five minutes during select periods, providing shoppers with opportunities to find deals on household essentials and pet care products. Amazon Basics will feature savings on items such as batteries, home storage solutions, and pet supplies. Non-Prime members can participate by signing up or starting a free trial here.
