Spring Internet World 2000 Recap

After three days of walking the convention floor and sitting through presentations, then flying back to the offices and adjusting to the time change, it was an interesting week. Here is a recap of the articles written during the seventh annual Spring Internet World.

On Wednesday, April 5th, the first day of the convention, there was quite a buzz surrounding the launch of Netscape 6 (Netscape Launches Netscape 6 Preview Release).

Around the same time that morning, Apple Computer confirmed rumors that it would be open sourcing the core of Mac OS X, entitled Darwin (Apple Opens Darwin).

Also during that time, GlobalSCAPE launched its long awaited file sharing program entitled CuteMX along with a new music portal for music lovers everywhere (GlobalSCAPE Launches CuteMX and Music Portal).

Macromedia also gave BetaNews a glimpse of its next generation Web building software entitled UltraDev, which is set to replace its popular DrumBeat software (Macromedia Demos 'UltraDev').

Thursday April 6th, was a much quieter day at the convention. Virtual Ink demoed a new product that allows businesses to utilize whiteboard space during netmeetings (Virtual Ink Brings Whiteboards to the Web), and MyInternetDesktop.com announced free online file storage along with its other services (MyInternetDesktop.com Offers Free Online File Storage).

As the convention came to a close on Friday, April 7th, very few companies revealed major new products or services. WebWirelessNow announced the availability of Wireless Internet free of charge to any cellular phone (Free Wireless News from WebWirelessNow) and Blink.com gave Internet surfers a place to store their bookmarks online for easy access (Access Your Bookmarks Anytime, Anywhere).

The following are links to recaps of several of the keynote speakers that presented at the conference:
