palmOne Names New CEO

palmOne, the company that manufactures the Palm handheld announced late Monday that it had selected a new CEO. Ed Corrigan, 44, who had served as the interim CEO since late February, will assume the position immediately. Corrigan had been president of the company since June of 2004.

Company executives credited Corrigan's performance as interim CEO as one of the guiding factors in making their final decision. The board approved Corrigan by a unanimous vote.

"[Corrigan's] outstanding record of leadership and his passion for the company and the industry distinguish him," palmOne Board Chairman Eric Benhamou said.

"We have conducted a comprehensive search of external candidates, and have also worked closely with Ed during his tenure as interim CEO. Ed has secured the confidence of the board, our customers, suppliers and employees, and we believe we have chosen the right leader for palmOne."

Corrigan has over two decades of management experience, including over a decade with Palm itself. He first joined Palm Computing, the predecssor of palmOne, in 1993 as vice president of marketing.

He was also one of the founders of Handspring, a company that produced Palm handhelds in the early part of this decade.
