Trend Tests New Business Anti-Spyware

Trend Micro has announced that it will be opening up its beta of its anti-spyware product for businesses to the public, and is now accepting applications through its Web site.

Those who meet the criteria that the company is looking for will be e-mailed with a link to download the test version of the software closer to the beta release date. The beta test will run from June 6 to June 23, Trend Micro officials told BetaNews.

Dubbed Trend Micro Anti-Spyware for SMB, the product is now in its third revision and promises added protection over past releases. Within the software is a feature that will prevent misidentification of cookies, such as those from legitimate Web sites, from being marked as spyware and inadvertently deleted.

In many applications, non-threatening cookies are identified as spyware and deleted, without giving the user any indication of where the cookie came from.

Also in this version is a recovery method for programs accidentally deleted, a prevention feature that will stop spyware from being installed, and a way to see where spyware is located and what application installed it. "By unmasking the source of the Spyware, you can avoid getting infected a second time," the company says.

Users can also schedule scans to occur at certain times, and can run either a quick or full scan. Trend Micro says their scan runs at four times the speed of competitors.

An enterprise version of the software will be made available in the coming weeks according to the company.
