Nikon Digital Cameras Get Innovative
Camera manufacturer Nikon added several new digital cameras to its lineup, including a pocket-sized model that includes 10x optical zoom, and two additions to its Coolpix line that include Wi-Fi capabilities.
The Coolpix S4 is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. But despite the camera's size, the unit sports a 2.5" LCD screen and 10x optical zoom, the highest of any camera in its class.
To accomodate such a zoon, the S4 zens is separated from the camera body; it has a swivel design that allows a user to view the LCD from any angle. The camera supports photos at up to 6.0-megapixel resolution and has 13.5 MB of internal memory, with SD card capabillity.
Features such as D-Lighting help balance lighting issues due to insufficient flash or excessive back lighting, while Blur Warning warns the user if a picture may be blurry, and scene modes help in shooting the best possible picture.
The Coolpix S4 will retail for $399.95 USD and will be released in September.
Nikon also introduced the Coolpix P1 and P2, which it bills as the world's first Wi-Fi digital camera. The wireless capabilities within the camera would allow images to be transferred to either a computer or PictBridge-capable printer equipped with Nikon's Wireless Printer Adapter.
The P1 and P2 will have the capability for 8.0- and 5.0-megapixel pictures, respectively, and the 802.11b/g wireless capabilities have a range of up to 100 feet.
The cameras also carry similar features to the S4 model, however are only capable of 3.5x optical zoom. Both models will be available in September with a retail price of $549.95 USD and $399.95 USD, respectively. The Wireless Printer Adapter will retail for $49.95 USD.
"The new Coolpix P1 and P2 literally pull the plug on digital imaging while highlighting Nikon's commitment to providing consumers with the latest in digital imaging technology," Bill Giordano, General Manager of Marketing for Nikon said in a statement.
"These models give consumers the freedom, with the push of a button, to immediately share and print their images like never before."
