BetaNews has learned that Microsoft plans to reissue the pink Zunes in a limited fashion by Mother's Day, with at least one retailer expecting to receive the devices within the week.

In a copy of a message sent to Best Buy stores obtained by BetaNews, the new Zunes are to first appear in the April 29 ads from the retailer. However, it seems as if the devices will be placed on shelves immediately.

"Microsoft is producing a limited quantity of this new color (we're purchasing enough inventory to satisfy the customer need)," the note reads. "This new color doesn't have a hard street date, so you can display and sell it as soon as you receive it."

This is not the first time the Zune will come in pink. Along with the launch of the original Zunes, he Redmond company shipped 100 numbered pink models in unmarked boxes as a special limited promotion.

Unlike those players, these will likely not be specially marked, although details were not speficially available. However, it is likely the models will be popular -- the pink iPods have sold well, especially to female consumers.

A request for confirmation on the new model to both Best Buy and Microsoft was unanswered as of press time.
