Toshiba's new Chromebook 2 offers a Skullcandy branded audio experience
Toshiba USA has taken the wraps off its second generation Chromebook. Chromebook 2 will sport a 13.3-inch screen in a compact 12-inch chassis and be available in two versions. The entry model boasts a standard HD display, while the premium edition offers Full HD (1920 x 1080) with IPS (In-plane switching) technology.
Both models feature Skullcandy tuned sound systems with "strategically placed" front-facing stereo speakers.
As well as the all-new chassis design, Toshiba's new Chromebook has a silver textured resin lid, and colored cases in Charcoal, Aqua and Rose will be available as an add-on.
Chromebook 2 is powered by Intel Celeron Processor N2840, offers 802.11ac wireless connectivity and comes in 2GB and 4GB memory configurations. Toshiba says the HD model will deliver around 11.5 hours of battery life. This drops to 9 hours in the Full HD model.
Other specs include an HD webcam, one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, HDMI output, SD Card slot, and a security lock slot.
"Our hardware design is evolving alongside Chrome OS. The Toshiba Chromebook 2 has the right mix of features and performance to make it a standout device in the category", says Philip Osako, senior director of product marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. "We designed our new Chromebooks for both the consumer and education markets, focusing on key experience-driving features that cross boundaries -- a great screen, awesome audio and a stylish, thin and light design for greater portability".
Chromebook 2 will be available from 5 October, priced from $249.99 -- $329.99 MSRP.
