First Android 7.0 Nougat smartphone to be LG V20
LG must know something about its competitors' plans for the next version of Android, because it wants everyone to know that it will be the first vendor to ship a new smartphone with Nougat on board.
The smartphone in question is called V20, and it is the successor to the V10 that LG unveiled nearly one year ago. It will reach store shelves in the coming quarter -- or at least two months from now.
"We are excited to offer the first phone in the world to feature Nougat out of the box", says LG president Juno Cho. "The LG V20 upgrades and extends its predecessor’s cutting-edge multimedia features a step further, providing distinctive mobile experience and sets a new standard for premium phones for consumers".
Two months is a long time, and I am wondering just what makes LG so sure it will be the first at this game. Samsung, for instance, has the Galaxy Note7 coming soon, and while it may not be released shortly after the launch it could still be available before October 1. The South Korean maker can't possibly know what every other vendor is up to, so I am a bit skeptical of its claim, to say the least.
Regardless, LG's announcement gives us a pretty good idea regarding the availability of Android 7.0 Nougat. A rumor suggests it will be launched this Friday, after the unveiling of the Galaxy Note7, and it would certainly make sense when factoring in the release date for the V20.
