IOGEAR releases stainless steel USB-C Docking Station with Power Delivery
USB-C is a great connection type for docking stations. Using a singe cable, a compatible laptop or tablet can be turned into, what is essentially, a desktop/workstation. Best of all, this cable can often charge the device too.
Luckily for consumers, there is no shortage of these docks on the market. For example, StarTech.com and SMK-Link both released beautiful solutions recently. Today, IOGEAR releases its product, the 'USB-C Docking Station with Power Delivery' (model number GUD3C01). Rather than use plastic, the body is forged of beautiful stainless steel.
"The new IOGEAR USB-C Docking Station, which features 10 ports for instantly connecting a wide variety of peripheral devices and accessories to a USB-C enabled laptop through a single high-speed cable, allows users to enjoy the flexibility and mobility of their laptop without sacrificing the experience and benefits of a full desktop workstation. The docking station provides support for DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport, USB 3.0 connectivity, HDMI, audio and Ethernet connections, to easily add desktop functionality to the laptop. In addition, the USB-C Docking Station provides power to charge the laptop through the USB-C power delivery capability", says IOGEAR.
David Lin, product manager at IOGEAR says, "as today's world places demands upon consumers and business professionals to become increasingly mobile, laptop manufacturers are being pushed to exponentially increase the computing power of laptops while simultaneously making them lighter and more compact. The obvious downside of this trend is that as devices get more powerful and more compact, the user experience begins to suffer. Our new USB-C Docking Station enables users to enjoy the freedom and versatility provided by laptop computers, while enabling them to restore the full desktop experience at their home or office by literally turning the laptop into a work station with the simple connection of a single USB cable".
IOGEAR shares the following ports found on the GUD3C01.
Audio Input | 3.5mm Line-In |
Audio Output | 3.5mm Line-Out |
Computer Side | USB 3.1 Type-C Port |
Power | 20V 4.5A Full Range Power Adapter |
USB | 3 x USB 3.0 Data Port ; 1 x USB Type-C Data Port |
Video Output | HDMI and DisplayPort |
LAN | Gigabit Ethernet |
If you are interested in purchasing this stainless steel USB-C docking solution, it has an MSRP of $249. This is more expensive than both the aforementioned StarTech.com and SMK-Link solutions. With that said, the IOGEAR offering can be found on Amazon.com for $199 here, making it a much easier pill to swallow.
Do you plan on buying a USB-C docking station in the future? Which make/model? Tell me in the comments.
