Fix update errors in Windows 10 with this new tool from Microsoft
If you’re having problems installing updates in Windows 7 onwards, there’s a troubleshooting page you can try.
The guided walkthrough lets you fix problems in Windows 7, 8.1 or 10. Just choose your operating system, and follow the on-screen instructions. If you’re running Windows 10, you’ll be prompted to download a new Windows Update Troubleshooter.
Run this with administrator permissions, and then click Next to start the process.
This is an improved version of the troubleshooter available for previous versions of Windows and checks for problems with Windows Update, Background Intelligent Transfer Services (BITS) and Windows Network Diagnostics.
By default, the troubleshooter will attempt to fix any problems it encounters, but if you click the Advanced link and uncheck 'Apply repairs automatically' you’ll be able to choose which repairs you want to run.
Open the troubleshooting report to see exactly what was checked by the tool. If it hasn't managed to fix things, this might give you a clue as to what to do next.
If you’re having problems with running updates, then it’s definitely worth giving this tool a try.
