AOC unveils beautiful 1080p Porsche-designed PDS241 and PDS271 monitors
While many consumers are going gaga over high-resolution monitors, let's be honest -- 1080p is still great. For those that want to save money and don't need the latest-and-greatest, a Full-HD offering can be a great way to stay on budget. For gamers in particular, a lower-resolution can allow you to squeeze more performance from a meager graphics card.
Today, AOC unveils a beautiful 1080p monitor designed by Studio F. A. Porsche. It offers 250 cd/m2 brightness in a choice of two sizes -- 24-inch (PDS241) and 27-inch (PDS271). It features a beautifully designed stand and extremely thin bezels. What really makes it stand out, however, is the breakout box that houses the HDMI (no DisplayPort) and power ports; there are no connection options on the monitor body itself.
"With the first modular input/output design on a monitor, the PDS241 and PDS271 combine power and HDMI outputs into a single cable coming out of the stand itself, adding to its beautiful minimalist design. Underneath their outstanding appearances, their full HD IPS panels provide great performance enhanced with AOC SuperColor Technology, which augments the color spectrum to cover a wider color gamut and provide excellent viewing angles of 178°. These monitors cover 100 percent of the sRGB and 90 percent of the NTSC color spaces. The PDS series is also equipped with AOC's LowBlue Mode and FlickerFree technologies, providing a healthy and enjoyable viewing experience even during long periods of use," says AOC.
Henning Rieseler, Head of Studio F. A. Porsche Berlin explains, "The expressive shape of the monitor stand emphasizes the simple idea of integrating the cables into the stand. The form not only follows the function, but celebrates it through its asymmetrical shape in an elegant and sophisticated way."
The monitors will only be sold on Amazon, and despite that Porsche name, they are surprisingly affordable. The PDS241 is only $199, while the PDS271 is $50 more at $249 respectively. Since the resolution is 1080p, I would recommend opting for the 24-inch variant, as text may look blurry on sizes above that.
