AltaVista Intros New Search Tools

AltaVista has souped up the range of search facilities
available to users of its various search engine portals.
The firm has launched a new search center and navigation platform
while simultaneously unveiling the AltaVista Entertainment Center,
which it said will help consumers find audio, video and image files.
The search center and new navigation platform is billed as providing
one-click access to customized search centers, power searching and an
e-mail and tools section, in addition to a suite of new services.
According to AltaVista, the main page at http://www.altavista.com has been designed to provide a cleaner, easier-to-use-interface with
immediate access to a wide range of search offerings.
The Entertainment Center, meanwhile, is said to be a specific
entertainment-related index to deliver the most relevant results in
the fastest time.
The firm said that users can search within five specific
entertainment categories: audio/MP3, video, images, radio and Web
pages.
Ross Levinson, the company's vice president, said that AltaVista's
search technology offers the hottest search categories on the Web,
while weeding out duplicate pages and unrelated information that
frustrate so many searchers.
The new enhancements, AltaVista said, draw on the company's patented
search technology, which currently captures more than 1 billion Web
pages.
