According to a Reuters report, the IMUnified organization says it has completed technical specifications for a unified instant messaging client. As you may recall, America Online is not a part of that coalition, after many requests from the participants for the online giant to join. The battle over a unified client has gotten heated in the past, and looks like it is taking a step in the right direction. The group hopes to have the new standard implemented amongst its members by the end of this year. AOL has promised interoperability once security and privacy issues are satisfactory to the company.
