MS Launches Exchange 2000

The Redmond Giant has finally launched its much anticipated and awaited software, Exchange 2000. Pretty much without a hitch, the launch party was typical Microsoft fashion. The problem many attendees had with the party is that a host of features Microsoft is talking about for the software will not be available until next year. Also at the party, Microsoft announced a new product, Mobile Information Server, which will let users access Exchange e-mail and contacts, tasks, and calendar functions from any Web-enabled device.
The new software is expected sometime in 2001.
The article on ZDNet explains some of the new features that most grab the attention of Exchange users. One of these, the Local Web Storage System, cache's the information in their Exchange and synchronizes it with a central server, giving them constant up-to-date information.
The other of these features, the Tahoe document management server, will give users a single point for retrieval of all the information and applications they use on a regular basis.
ZDNet writes "Tahoe users will be able to search across multiple repositories for corporate and web-based information and documents as well as perform document-management functions such as check-in/check-out and version control."
Both new features will ship with Office 10, as part of the many new features added to the office suite.
