Intel, Yahoo Team on Fantasy Stats

Fantasy sports fans are about to receive a boost as Intel and Yahoo said Tuesday they would team up to offer real-time sports statistics to Viiv-enabled systems. The service would initially launch with a focus on fantasy football, allowing for detailed statistics to be overlaid on a TV screen and navigated through a remote control.

Called Yahoo Sports for TV, it is billed as one of the first applications to showcase the potential power and uses of Intel's Viiv multimedia platform. The service would eventually expand to other fantasy sports, including baseball, basketball and soccer among others.

"We are creating truly innovative ways for fans to use the popular, interactive features of Yahoo! Sports on their TV though Intel Viiv technology, which delivers the best consumer PC experience for in-home entertainment," Yahoo Connected Life senior vice president Marco Boerries said.

Key features of the service include up-to-the minute scores and stats, the ability to view one's Yahoo fantasy scores and teams, the ability to mark specific professional teams as favorites, and a scoreboard view that both would show real world and fantasy league scores on a single screen.

Yahoo Sports for TV will work on any Intel Viiv computer, and is compatible with Windows Media Center Edition remote controls. More about the service is available from the Yahoo Sports Web site.

"The combination of Yahoo! Sports for TV with Viiv technology will give avid football fans the competitive edge they need to keep on top of their game as well as their opponents," Intel Digital Home Group vice president Kevin Corbett said. "Intel looks forward to working with Yahoo! to create cool, new experiences for sports fans."
