Need help? Try LocalHero

When it comes to social networks, there is one to suit every occasion. MySpace has the music market covered while LinkedIn caters for the business side of things. The likes of Facebook have become more of an everyday social network, but the fact that there are so many to choose from does not mean that there isn’t room for another network, particularly if it fills a niche; this is precisely what LocalHero aims to do.

Rather than being a social network that simply enables you to keep in touch with your friends, family and colleagues, LocalHero has been designed to make it easier for people that need help to get in touch with people that can offer help. Working much like other social networks, LocalHero enables you to build up a list of friends and you can share details about your skills so people that need help can see what you might be useful for.

Similarly, if you find that you are in need of help, you can post a shout out, or browse through your list of contacts to find someone suitable. This may mean that you are able to speak directly with one of your friends who is, previously unbeknownst to you, something of a dab hand at plumbing, or it could mean that a friend is able to give you the number of a plumber who can help you out with your leaky shower.

A chat system is available so you can exchange messages within the app, which provides a handy way of sharing phone numbers and other details. As well as enabling you to ask a question of your friends, the app can also be used to get advice from people in the nearby area -- and of course you can also help out by responding to posts made by other people in the area. At the moment, LocalHero is only available for iOS, but an Android version is in the pipeline.

You can find out more and download a free copy of the app by paying a visit to the LocalHero review page.
