Skype 6.5 improves video messaging

Microsoft has today released Skype for Windows desktop 6.5, featuring improved video messaging and simplified contact handling.

Aga Guzik, head of Desktop Product Marketing at Skype, explains that the new build "improves the stability of video messaging and makes video messaging easier to find with improved notifications".

Skype 6.5 also makes it "more intuitive to send and accept contact requests", claims Guzik, as "accepting a contact request will now appear right in your instant message view".

The new release also brings some significant bug fixes.

Stability is improved by fixing crashes (for some users) on exiting Skype or trying to send a file, for instance.

And a particularly annoying set of file transfer issues -- "cancel all" doesn’t cancel file transfers, upon cancel of a file transfer the transfer shows as successfully completed, and when one participant accepted file transfer the sender could not cancel the transfer -- have also been successfully resolved.

This latest build is still very much a work in progress. Video messaging may be improved, for instance, but it’s still in preview, and presumably that’s not about to change any time soon.

As usual, though, the fixes alone justify the download, and you should grab your copy of Skype 6.5 right away.
