The new HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle and Pro are impressive mid-range smartphones

HTC, while not exactly a name to have the likes of Apple and Samsung quaking in their boots, has always been a brand to get rather excited about. Choosing a smartphone is clearly a highly personal affair, but in terms of build quality, features and value for money, HTC never fails to impress.

The newly announced HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle and HTC Desire 10 Pro both sit firmly in the mid-range for the company, and unashamedly ape the look of iPhones of yore. Despite the naming convention, both of the phones seem to be targeted at the millennial market, with a great deal of attention placed on selfies and music. Clearly the Pro model packs the most into the case, but do the handsets continue the HTC tradition of delivering more than you would expect?

In terms of spec, neither version of the Desire 10 is particularly disappointing, but equally neither will set the world on fire. The Pro model is the beefier of the two, but both are decent handsets that will please smartphone users both inside and outside of the target demographic.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor powered HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle features a 5.5-inch screen at 720p. 32GB of storage is complemented by 3GB of RAM and can be expanded thanks to a microSD port. There is a 2,700mAh battery that should keep things ticking over nicely for many hours. Catering for music fans, there are BoomSound HiFi Edition speakers and a 13 megapixel camera on the rear, and a 5 megapixel one on the front. The Lifestyle model will be available from later this month.

Upping the ante slightly is the HTC Desire 10 Pro, powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 processor. This also has a 5.5-inch screen, but this time it's a 1080p affair. Storage has been doubled to 64GB, RAM jumps to 4GB, and the battery capacity increases to 3,000mAh. Pro handsets also feature a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, but the key feature of this handset is the 20 megapixel camera on the rear, and the selfie-friendly panorama mode for the 13 megapixel front-facer. This version of the phone will be available from November.

No word on pricing for either model yet.
