eBay will now price match a number of online retailers
Part of the joy of shopping online is being able to easily compare prices at a number of retailers so you get the best price. If you prefer to get all of your goods from the same place, eBay has a new deal that you'll love -- price matching.
The offer covers items in the eBay Deals section, and price matching is carried out against Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Walmart.com, HomeDepot.com, Target.com, Sears.com, Wayfair.com and Jet.com. But if you want to take advantage of the offer, you'll have to take careful note of the terms and conditions.
We've already mentioned that price matching only applies to eBay Deals -- so nothing that's up for auction is included -- and it's currently only available in the US. eBay says that the item on eBay and the competitor's site must be "exactly the same and currently in stock", "new, unopened items in retail packaging", and taxes and shipping are not factored in.
The company offers a simple three step guide to price-matching:
- Before you buy it, contact eBay Customer Service to request a price match.
- Let Customer Service know where you found the lower price. We'll verify the price match on the spot.
- Once it's verified, you'll get an immediate eBay coupon for the difference. Happy shopping!
The price difference is made up with a coupon, and you're not given very long to use it, as eBay explains:
How does eBay reimburse me if a lower-priced, identical item is found on a qualifying competitor's website?
eBay will issue a coupon for the qualifying purchase if eBay's customer service agent can confirm the difference in prices. Upon confirmation, they will issue a coupon which must be used towards the purchase of the price match listing. Coupons will expire within 24 hours and will not be reissued upon expiration. eBay reserves the right to cancel them in the event that a price match purchase is cancelled or returned. eBay also reserves the right to deny claims in the event of buyer abuse/fraud and seller abuse/fraud.
